The Aral Revival project is an artistic project made in diptych and committed to the recognition and safeguarding of the Aral Sea in Kazaksthan. In 1918, the drying up of the Aral Sea was planned by the Bolshevik authorities in order to initiate an intensive program of cotton cultivation in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The Amou Daria and Syr-Daria rivers that feed the sea are diverted and cause in less than a century a drying up of 80% of the sea causing the disappearance of the 28 endemic species of the Aral Sea. Kazakhstan now wants to set up an ecological project to fill the dried up sea. Curator IADA
